watched cry baby tonight

i watched John Waters' Cry Baby tonight. the library copy of the DVD had a scratch in the second scene of the film - not a good omen. but after getting past that - all went well.
the movie was a lot stranger than i remembered. very over the top. after the release of Hairspray the year before, this one (a musical) looks a lot more like is independent films from an earlier era. still, it was well worth the time and brought back some fine memories.
btw - while digging up some online info on this movie tonight, i learned that there was an off-broadway premier this week of a new updated, full musical version of Cry Baby. like the broadway (then film) version of Hairspray, i suspect Cry Baby may be headed for the big screen again soon.
