fireworks were great
the annual fireworks show in cincinnati, oh this year were great. this was the 40th year for the show. we arrived about 7PM - two hours before the start. this gave us a chance to get a decent spot on along the flood wall in Newport, KY. i say decent because this spot was still about 1/2 mile from the main display. but when the fireworks appear 500 feet in the air (and more), that's still pretty close!
we were not alone there, either. morning papers say more than 500k showed up. by the time the first fireworks shot off, we were cheek to jowl with others on the hillside. the show was awesome. nice to be there up close to feel to booms in your chest!
we took a local shuttle bus to the event. drove about 5 miles to a park and ride and paid $5 to get on a bus that dropped us off next to the flood wall downtown. the trip back was wild. they had tens of buses already lined up along the on-ramp to the freeway. the crowd simply thronged to the lead bus and piled in. once a bus was full, it took off onto the freeway. we were on the fourth bus (nice!). the fireworks were over at 9:35. we arrived at our car and 10:00. very sweet!
to celebrate, we all stopped at a local big boy restaurant for coffee and dessert. lots of fun all around.
