saboteur - 1942
watched hitchcock's saboteur this weekend - very fun movie. released in 1942 with a clear patriotic theme, the script has several excellent scenes. i've seen the movie several times before, but had forgotten about a few very funny scenes. my favorite is one where the two main characters attempt to take refuge and end up in the sleping trailer of circus freaks (was this cut out of teh old television replays?).
i can't find quotes from this scene online, but they are precious! all about supporting those in need vs. not getting involved; about sticking your neck out for a friend or just letting 'someone else' handle it. also several clear references to dictators, facists, and defending democracy, etc. all staid content - most likely pushed by producers in order to make this a pro-war flick. but hitchcock got his digs in, too. he had the scene played out by fat lady, a pair of siamese twins, a bearded woman, and a midget! hilarious!
