• while collecting materials for our first trip, i kept a 'loose tally' of what we spent
• the initial goal was to spend no more than 500 USD to outfit two people. this was a tight budget. as a result, most of our gear is suitable only for summer weather. while many of the items are not 'top shelf' quality, all are solid and expected to hold up well over time.
• 'perishables' (food and fuel) are not included here, just the hardware and other 'tack' needed for the trips
• this is does not include items we had sitting about somewhere, though they turned out to be few in number
• these purchases were made in march-april 2006
• all amounts are in USD rounded to the nearest whole number
• some items were purchased online, most were picked up a local stores
